040609 – rest please…

Workout: none.  After a gruelling 3 day weekend including a Nancy PR on Friday, a 5k PR on saturday, 50.5 mi/6700ft of climbing and a basketball game on sunday – my legs and back are thoroughly destroyed.  The only thing I am doing this week is sprinting tomorrow and playing basketball on wednesday.  Thursday and Friday are rest – MChallenge is saturday.

BF check: Bi – 4mm, Tri – 5mm, Back – 17mm, SI – 7mm – 33mm total = 13% give/take

Nutrition:
730AM – [3] – 1 Amylu chicken apple sausage, 1 apple w/ peanut butter,
1 hard boiled egg, 1 small can of V8
1015AM – [2] – 1 zone bar
1230PM – [3] – Seared Ahi tuna salad (4.5 oz or so), not much on the vegetables,
so I matched it w/ a just shy of 3 block chocolate larabar (all natural, organic,
no added sugar, gluten and dairy free)
400PM – [?] – handful of cashews…
800PM – [4] – 6 oz salmon, 5 oz (cooked) sweet potato leaves (1 block),
7 oz broccoli (1 block), 1 orange, 1 oz peanut butter

[6.5/60bpm] – elevated heart rate (normal being 54 for me, body needs rest.)

  1. I was pretty hungry all day, eating close to 2500 calories. HR was definitely still elevated and I was dehydrated, scale in the AM said 144.5, about 1 lb shy on water, my lips are pretty cracked. I’m doubling up on Acid Zapper as suggested for these days leading into Saturday

  2. not a bad idea… I should do that too…

sodium intake has definitely gone up as of late, so that has been helping me to retain water. Scale this morning said 167.0 – seems to be right around where I’m stabilizing. Will need to measure BF after KOM – that will be interesting, esp. w/ those cheat days…!

  3. I’m going to start increasing my sodium intake today, I’m switching my caloric profile to 60-70% carbs, 20% fat, and the rest as protein, or at least trying to. No more nuts, EVOO, or avocado for the rest of the week. I read that eating a crap load of carbs helps retain water, and the burning of glycogen requires water, so they appear to complement each other. Only a few more days… I’m anxious/nervous

  4. I’m sticking to what I’m doing b/c it seems to be working for me, and I have not done enough experimenting to change at this point… I am, however, going to regulate my fats more carefully instead of eating random handfuls of almonds and peanuts…

I just want to get it over with. I want to complete it and move on. If I don’t complete it, I am going to be PO’d.

  5. After asking Bikely to rebuild the route profile, it updated to 6953ft climbing, so we did more than 1/2 the climbing in less than 1/2 the distance.

  6. haha, have them rebuild it again, see if we can get it to break 7000…!

at 12k ft of climbing, we did 58% of the climbing or so… not bad at all… with 50+ miles to do the remaining 42% of the climbing, that is making me slightly more relieved.

I don’t think I’ve been this worried about completing an event before, haha
